The history of the miniature schnauzer begins in the 1800’s.
They are a mix between the:
- Affenpinshcer
- Standard Schnauzer
- Poodle
They were breed specifically to be farm dogs in Germany. They were developed to:
- Guard the farm
- Keep away rats
- Keep away other small vermin
The first record of the miniature schnauzer was in 1888 and the first exhibition was in 1899.
They were very courageous dogs and were mainly seen:
- Guarding herds
- Guarding small farms
- Guarding families
In 1926, the American Kennel club registered the new breed. In 1928, the miniature schnauzer was introduced into the United States.
